Lights! Closet! Action!

The bathroom is really coming along with the installation of the tile but there are still a few essential things that need doing to make it useable.

We need some lights (now that the electricity is hooked up).

Both the flat square light and the three scone lights came from Lowes and are by Portfolio. If I remember rightly they were somewhere in the $25-30 range.

Another light from Lowes. The casing and the cover were bought separately.

We need closets.

These come from the PAX range from IKEA with drawers from the Komplement range.

Mrs. Remodel’s on one side.

And Mr. Remodel’s on the other (although Mrs. R also gets two drawers on Mr. R’s side).
We designed our own combination of shelves and drawers to accommodate our own needs/wants. For example, Mr. R wanted his shoes on shoe sticky up thingies, while Mrs. R wanted hers on shelves.

A mirror for preening, a bench for sitting (made from a wooden shower floor ‘mat’ and some wooden legs), and a small rug for standing (from Bed, Bath & Beyond) completes the closet.

We talked a lot about the kind of mirrors we wanted here. We considered some very expensive ones but they were just too expensive for what they were (they had lights included and were $600 each). Then Mr. R spotted these at Lowes one day. With their leaf design and oval shape they fit both the ovalish shaped lights and the beach/tropical vibe of the decor.

Right from the start we wanted to have this almost frame-less look to the glass. One bathroom shop told us it couldn’t be done which, translated, means they didn’t offer this option because obviously it can be done. We found a company that could in South Coast Screen & Glass in San Juan Capistrano for under $1,000.
They did a pretty good job although something went wrong with their measuring. When they brought the glass to install it, it was longer in the short section than Mr. Remodel had asked for. He wanted it the length he wanted to ensure that we did not catch our feet on the channel getting into the shower. We accepted the larger size to move the project along, and it hasn’t been a problem however they are lucky it wasn’t any longer or we would not have. You would think a company providing an item that really has to be a certain size would take more care to measure correctly.

Looks good though.
