Where Has All The Wallboard Gone?

As previously stated, we have started framing but we have still not finished with tearing stuff out. Not by any means. Every so often (often here means very often) Mr. Remodel, Mr. Fix-It and various Mr. Fix-It Helpers will stare meaningfully at a piece of wallboard as yet untouched. Someone will venture the suggestion it needs to come out while the others nod sagely and declare their agreement, as someone goes off to get the wallboard saw.
I can barely leave the room before another swath of wallboard is pulled out. Why, did this huge chunk have to come out, I ask upon coming back from the shops, postbox etc? We’re tracing the pathway of the wiring; we’re putting in a new electrical fixture; that section wasn’t put in correctly in the first place etc. Perfectly good reasons are all very well but in my mind I need to see an end this removal of wallboard, preferably this minute. An end to the removal means the project is going to finished sooner than it will when there is more removal still to do. More removal also means the buying of more materials, which might be doing wonders for the Californian building trade but not for the remodel budget.

The following pictures will give you a clear idea of what I’m up against here.
Let’s start in the art studio.

This room doesn’t have great light for an art studio because it doesn’t get a lot of sun and what does come in is blocked a little by a slatted patio cover which we cannot remove. Mr. Remodel wanted to put in a light fixture which bounced light off the ceiling into the room so it was necessary to cut open the wall to put in the necessary wiring.

Then it was decided that more wallboard had to come off for the same reason.

Then more.

Moving on to the master bedroom.
Here is what the entrance to the master bedroom looked like from inside the room.

Not a colour I would use but lots of nice wallboard with nothing wrong with it.

A little wallboard removed to deal with some more wiring issues (don’t ask but it is all to code).

More wallboard gone. On the other side of the wall is the living room fireplace above which the TV will go. Because there is no space nearby for DVD players etc., Mr. Remodel has decided to run cabling from the TV to the other side of the new opening to the living via the wall.

Hence, yet more wallboard gone to create a pathway for the cable and for the new doorway opening for the bedroom.

Lastly, in the living room.

Here we see the happy sight/site of framing…Tra la la…
(see the black bag …shhh… it’s full of evil insulation)

Why has more wallboard been taken down? I never got a satisfactory answer.
(three black bag of evil insulations now…it’s taking over)

A knock-on effect of wallboard removal in this last case was even less bathroom privacy. Up to now we had had to keep the living/dining room curtains closed or close them everytime we wanted to use the loo or have a shower. Otherwise we could see all the way out into the garden and the neighbours houses across the way. This degree of open plan living is a little too modern for my liking.
In the end a black bag not ear-marked for evil insulation provided some cheap and quick privacy.
